A thoughtful review does two jobs: it helps other people decide where to go, and it gives a local business honest feedback. Whether your visit was brilliant or a bit of a let-down, here's how to make your review count.
1. Set the scene
Say what you came for and when. "Lunch on a busy Saturday" or "a geyser replacement in July" gives readers context straight away.
2. Be specific
Specific details are what make a review useful. What did you order, buy or have done? What stood out?
"The calamari was tender and the chips were crisp. It was loud inside, but the deck was lovely."
3. Be honest and balanced
If everything was great, say so. If something went wrong, describe what happened without exaggerating. Mentioning how the business handled a problem is often the most helpful part.
"Our food took 40 minutes, but the manager apologised and took the drinks off the bill."
4. Rate each part fairly
On Locatr you give an overall star rating and can also rate service, value for money, location and cleanliness separately. That lets you say "great food, slow service" without dragging the whole score down. Make sure your stars match your words: a 2-star review full of praise confuses everyone.
5. Add practical tips
Parking, wheelchair access, how busy it gets, whether to book ahead: these details save the next person time.
6. Add photos
A picture of your meal, the finished job or the view from your table makes a review more trustworthy. You can attach up to 5 photos to a Locatr review.
7. Describe the experience, not the person
Keep it about what happened, not personal attacks.
Instead of: "The waiter was rude." Try: "Our server seemed rushed and didn't check back on us."
8. Update it if things change
If the business fixes the problem or you go back and have a better time, edit your review. Business owners can also reply to reviews on Locatr, so you may get a response.
Example reviews
A great visit ★★★★★
Perfect sundowner spot. We sat on the deck for drinks and a seafood platter. Everything was fresh, and our server knew the menu well. It gets busy at sunset, so book or arrive early.
A mixed visit ★★★☆☆
Good food, slow service. We waited 30 minutes for a table even though we'd booked, and the mains arrived lukewarm. The dessert was excellent and the manager apologised for the wait. We'd try it again on a quieter night.
